Testimonials
Since going down to the shelter, I have spent much time thinking about the entire experience and as such, I am very motivated to continue being a part of this initiative as well as others that I have learned about on the YMC website.
I have a sort of interesting story to share with you (perhaps maybe even a bit unbelievable..haha). Actually, what happened was while distributing the food on that Sunday, it so happened that I recognized someone that was in the line. It turned out to be my uncle (my mom's sister's husband's brother). My family knew that he was having marital problems and has had other major personal problems in the past, but NO ONE HAD ANY IDEA that he was homeless and seeking assistance from the Salvation Army. Needless to say, I was very shocked to see him and although initially I had no idea how to react, steps have been taken to try to help him out. Its really an unbelievable experience for me because I never imagined seeing someone that I knew in that situation (even more so, a family member) when I decided to come out that day. Oddly enough, it was a last minute decision for me to tag along with my dad who was actualy filling in for my cousin (who initially volunteered to help out with transportation but was not able to make it at the last minute). I guess Allah (swt) works in mysterious ways.
Anyways, without typing too much more I'd like to say that it was a pleasure to meet you and your wife and learn about YMC. I have been looking for an organization like this for some time now and inshallah I intend to use this opportunity to give some of my time to your cause, learn and grow in Islam, and meet some like-minded people.
Hi everyone, I would like to take a moment to share my experience today with feed the streets organized by Young Muslims of Canada. It only took a few hours out of my life and was one of the most rewarding experiences. At 11am I went down to IMO and helped packed the food away in bags and boxes while having the opportunity to meet other Muslims in the community. Then we carpooled downtown and had the joy of handing out the lunches to many greatful people. The time you put into it only lasts a few hours but the blessings will last a lifetime. Any brothers and sisters who think they might be interested in doing something like this even for one day in the year and are committed to helping out then please take the time to check out the websitr and sign up for the email list and spread the word to others. Thank you for reading and sharing in my experience. :)

I want to thank Young Muslims Canada for their efforts and dedication in this Feed The Streets Initiative among other activities that they do for the community. After attending, I became humbled to the problems that many homeless people go through day in and day out. We need more activities like this in our community. Thanks!
