As our global community faces alarming environmental challenges, there is a need for creating new possibilities in the world in which we live. Global warming is a human-induced problem and can only be stopped by the human race. By shutting off your lights for an hour on March 27, 2010 at 8:30 PM for 1 hour, we are sending a potent message to governments and mass polluters around the world about our resolve to reduce green house gas emissions.
Earth hour started in 2007. Over 2.2 million people and 2100 businesses in Sydney, Australia turned off their lights for an hour. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in Sydney during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year. In 2008 over 5 million people took part, making Earth Hour as the largest movement against global warming around the globe.
